Warning: this page is here for archival purposes only. SCREAM is no longer supported and the latest version of Internet Explorer no longer supports Netscape style plugins.
Netscape requires a MIME type to work with plugins, and this server has now been set up with the correct MIME type. Therefore the SCREAM plugin will only work with versions of Internet Explorer older than 6.0. but should work fine with Netscape.

SCREAM v2.3 creates full-screen interactive vector-based animations with incredibly tiny file sizes that are ideal for a wide variety of applications including:
SCREAM animations can be played back with the freely-distributable SCREAM NetScape/Internet Explorer plug-in, the SCREAM Desktop Player or SCREAM Screen Saver for Windows 95 and SCREAM NetScape/Internet Explorer plug-in for Windows 3.1. A Macintosh version is in development.
All of the playback engines include the ability to interact with SCREAM animations via X-Y mouse movements and external MIDI events.
SCREAM lets webmasters and multimedia developers make sites and applications with new levels of interactivity and involvement for those who view them.
"For example, we've created a series of animations that function as virtual musical instruments where you can play notes, change sounds and trigger animations just by moving the mouse around the screen. The creative possibilities are endless and we're just getting started" says Dee Long, the program's author who was a member of the 70's prog-rock group Klaatu and has had a long career as a recording engineer and record producer working with the likes of Paul McCartney and George Martin.
SCREAM v2.3 for Windows 95 simplifies the creation of interactive animations with a concise and logical user interface.
DRAW Mode creates objects with a full complement of vector drawing tools. CorelDraw objects and Metafiles can be imported and edited. A range of fonts are provided for the easy creation of animated text and banners.
ANIMATE Mode provides a drag-and-drop keyframe timeline for assembling animations. Simply move, rotate, stretch, re-size or cycle colors as desired then take a snapshot, SCREAM's tweening capabilities take care of the steps in between to accelerate the process of creating sophisticated animations.
Clipping support enables animated objects to move "behind" other objects for a variety of visual effects. Precise editing of animation parameters and controlled randomization of selected parameters is provided. Four LFO's (Low Frequency Oscillators) are available to assign to selected animation parameters. The Resource window provides easy importation of other SCREAM objects, animations or scenes within them.
SCREAM's powerful EVENT Mode provides advanced interactive multimedia capabilities that allow zones and animated objects to control any combination of the following:
Now, with version 2.3, the currently playing "Midi File" can be patched to SCREAM's Midi input, allowing the same dramatic changes to be triggered without the need for a Midi Keyboard!
The Midi File can also trigger a "SCREAM Event" at a defined Bar (and Beat) point in the song, OR when a specific note (or range of notes) is played on a specific channel, OR on a Midi Program change message. In this way SCREAM can actually synchronize animations precisely with Midi Song Files in ways never before possible with ANY other program!
The "Midi Sync" and "Midi Modulation" demos on the New SCREAM Home Page demonstrate the power of this interaction between song and animation.
In a similar manner, "Wave Files" can also be routed back to the Midi Input. The level of the audio can modify any of SCREAM's "Real Time" parameters.
The Wave File can also trigger a "SCREAM Event" at a defined "Cue Point". You can add Cue Points to any Wave File with most Wave Editors. "Cue Points" can be used to mark the spot where you want SCREAM to respond.
Wave Files can be set (using a SCREAM Event) to loop between any two "Cue Points" and loops are smooth and glitch free. This allows looping to be switched "on the fly" to create cool "grooves" that change with time. Wave play can also be faded in, or out.
To see (and hear) it in action, check out the "Wave Loops" Demo on the New SCREAM Home Page.
Of course, none of this is limited to use on the Internet!
Wave Files and Midi Files can be of any length, and can be read from the Web, Disk or CD. Synchronized Wave/Midi/SCREAM animation files can be used to produce spectacular CD Rom presentations. A demonstration of this is currently in production.
